There is a dramatic difference in the consumption patterns of people watching television. The subscriptions to cable are on the downward slope, streaming exhaustion is increasing, and millions of households are switching to IPTV, which is a versatile and cheaper option, or Internet Protocol Television. Three tools continue to emerge in the middle of this shift: STBEmu, Stalker Portal and Xtream. Knowledge of their operation assists any user to make a better judgment regarding their system of viewing.
What IPTV Actually Is
IPTV is a technology that uses the internet to transmit content on television as opposed to the traditional satellite or cable infrastructure. Instead of getting a broadcast signal, the viewer transmits channels and on-demand content over a server. The model offers access to live TV, movies and series on virtually all devices, including smart TVs, Android boxes, tablets, and smartphones.
The experience of an IPTV is determined by three factors; the reliability of the servers of the provider, the speed of the internet connection of the user and the application of the streams. Here, STBEmu, Stalker Portal and Xtream have their respective roles.
STBEmu and Stalker portal: The Virtual Set-Top box
STBEmu (Set-Top Box Emulator) is an Android application which is used to simulate a physical Mag set-top box. Users do not need to buy hardware, instead, they use the emulator on any Android device and attach it to a Stalker Portal a middleware server which controls the delivery of IPTV content.
In order to use STBEmu with Stalker Portal, the user requires three pieces of information:
- Portal URL-- the server address that the IPTV service offers.
- MAC address - it is a special identifier that the portal identifies the device.
- Name portal- a label of the association in the app.
After set up, STBEmu will then hook up to the Stalker Portal and offer a more TV-like interface: live channels by category, electronic program guide (EPG), and on-demand content as supported by the provider. Stalker Portal is server-side and the application is thus lightweight and responsive.
One of such details: the MAC address which is applied in STBEmu must be assigned by the IPTV provider. A portal subscription is normally associated with one or a restricted number of MAC addresses. Any attempts to use an unregistered MAC will lead to an error in connection or a locked portal screen.
Xtream IPTV: An alternate Architecture
Xtream (commonly referred to as Xtream Codes or Xtream IPTV) is an independent system of IPTV delivery. It does not imitate a set-top box but instead presents a specific API which transfers an authenticated URL to a compatible player.
An average Xtream IPTV connection needs:
- Server URL - the address of the streaming server
- Username - this is provided by the provider.
- Password -- user name and password are used together to authenticate the user.
A large number of IPTV applications are directly compatible with the Xtream API, such as TiviMate, IPTV Smarters, and GSE Smart IPTV. The list created by the Xtream is most likely to be in the M3U format, and it can also be opened by the generic media player and by smart TV apps.
The Xtream system is more likely to provide flexibility to the management of playlists. Providers based on this architecture can readily update lists of channels, add VOD libraries as well as user accounts without the need to change the client side.
Stalker Portal vs. Xtream: The Major Differences
The two systems have the same central use, which is to provide the IPTV streams to the final users, although they are different in terms of methodology.
Stalker Portal is highly interconnected with Mag box ecosystem. It was created to resemble the experience of a physical set-top box, which is easy to use to users who switch to the traditional cable. The interface is provided in a well-organized, uniform, and simple to use by the non-technical users. It however needs MAC-authentication which may make it tricky to change devices.
Xtream IPTV is more adaptable and device-independent. Authentication is a username-based password-based service, and it is easier to use on a variety of devices or even share a subscription. Xtream API is also broadly accepted, which means that users have more options with regard to the app to watch.
No system is superior in nature as the correct one, the only difference is what the provider has and the user favors flexibility of the interface and devices.
Choosing the Right Setup
When a person is establishing an IPTV the first thing that can serve as a practical point of departure is to enquire with the provider of the system they support, it is either Stalker Portal, Xtream or both. There are numerous providers who provide both alternatives, and users are at liberty to make a choice.
STBEmu and a Stalker Portal would be a safe choice in case the desired result is a TV-like interface and a remote-friendly design. As flexibility and accessibility across devices is more important, then Xtream IPTV setup with such an app as TiviMate will be a better match.
IPTV has long ago passed its technical-only audience. With the current set of tools at their disposal, such as STBEmu and Stalker Portal, or the Xtream ecosystem, it is available to anyone ready to spend twenty minutes of initial configuration. This is more difficult, as usual, to find a provider whose service quality is equally as guaranteed.
