Television consumption has been divided.Television consumption is now in a fractured state. The simple idea for decades was to have a thick coaxial cable go through the wall and use an expensive plastic box located beneath the television to decode a set amount of channels. You got what you paid for and you saw what was on. That era is over. 

With TV these days, it's not captive to copper wire or satellite dishes. It works on data, it goes over the internet and it is tailored to the specific viewer. To get a full understanding of how digital broadcasting actually operates, one needs to focus on the infrastructure which is not seen on television. 

IPTV is at the very core of this transformation. 

The mechanics of the modern IPTV


To see the landscape one needs to know the underlying technology. The full form of IPTV is Internet Protocol Television. IPTV is not transmitted via traditional broadcast, satellite or cable but through a standard broadband line. 

With an iptv service, the streaming video information is sent by your internet service provider or a third party host. Basically, downloading and playing media at the same time. This means that there are two ways of viewing them: while the first one is via live television and is transmitted in real-time through the multicasting protocols, the second one is called Video on Demand, or unicasting, in which the user requests a particular file to be sent to them.

During the early days of Internet television, the television companies had to sell special equipment, such as the television's set-top box, known as the MAG series. The physical gadget was made to be able to receive internet streams, decipher them and play them on a menu controlled remote TV. 

The introduction of smart TVs and the Android-based streaming sticks made the need for a dedicated physical box redundant. The answer was software, which could simulate the hardware. This is where stbemu comes into play.

The stbemu software is indistinguishable from a real piece of hardware in your living room to the server. This makes the viewing experience smooth, user-friendly, and very stable — no additional wires, plastic boxes, or similar items to clutter your entertainment center are needed.

Analyze data using a Stalker Portal


A good emulator is only half the job done. The software has to be part of a destination to connect to, a hub that can log in the user and arrange the video flows. In this ecosystem, this hub is called a stalker portal.

Stalker portals are a subset of middleware. Middleware is the unknown flesh which connects the content provider's servers with the user's screen. During its connection to the internet, your stbemu application targets the URL of a stalker portal. 

After making the connection, the stalker portal reads the virtual MAC address that you've given your emulator. If the address is in the provider's database, the provider grants access to the portal. But it does more than it opens the gate. The stalker portal is responsible for keeping a database of thousands of video links in an orderly fashion so that it can be easily browsed by users. Fills the Electronic Program Guide (EPG), classifies films and series, logs viewing history, and provides features such as stopping live TV, and catching up on missed TV shows. It makes the internet raw data and makes it into the experience of watching television, which was so humane and relaxed.

The transition to IPTV Xtream Codes is underway


MAC authentication is still widely used in its simplicity, but the technology has grown in flexibility to allow other forms of authentication. The iptv xtream system is the most noticeable other option to the conventional portal. 

The system was originally built on the Xtream Codes platform, and is based on an API (Application Programming Interface) not hardware emulation. A iptv xtream setup does not require any particular device to be connected but rather a user name, a password and a server URL.

A stalker portal is a type of middleware that helps to keep the vast oceans of digital content organized and easy to navigate. But, even systems like iptv xtream offer the flexibility that is needed in a highly mobile and multi-device world.
